Taking advantage of an RV relocation, we had the great opportunity to spend 6 days driving Whitehorse > Teslin Lake > Watson Lake > Liard Hot Spring > Muncho Lake > Barkerville > Vancouver

Thursday May 17 - Getting to Whitehorse

After rushing from work back home to grab our luggage, we took the Skytrain from downtown Vancouver to the airport. We had a quick 45 min flight to Kelowna before continuing on for 2.5 hours to Whitehorse.

We got in at 11:30 and hit the bed in our backpackers shortly after midnight. Still too bright out for northern lights at midnight unfortunately.

Friday May 18, Whitehorse to Teslin Lake.

I would highly recommend “The Beez Kneez Backpackers” in Whitehorse.

Picked up our RV at Fraserway RV around 10:30 and spent most of the morning buying supplies for the journey.

We had lunch next to the Klondike Paddle Steamer but were one day too early to see the inside as tourist season was starting that weekend. Of course it was still Friday.

A few well spent hours in the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre. We watched a film on the ice age, check out mammoth bones and got a tour around the museum.

An early evening stroll around Miles Canyon just south of town before heading on to our campground for the evening.

A few pics of the party frozen Teslin Lake and around the Timberpoint Campground right on the lake.

Saturday May 19 - Teslin Lake, Whitehorse (again!), Watson Lake, Liard Hot Springs and Muncho Lake.

Our fridge died at about 7pm on the first night. Thankfully Loz thought to get some ice from the lake and use it in the failed fridge to keep out food cold!

We got up early and drove 2 hours back to Whitehorse to get it fixed and after it was done, we set off at about 10:30am bound for Watson Lake and the Signpost Forrest.

Shortly after leaving Watson Lake and crossing into BC, we saw our first bears of the trip, a mother and 3 cubs. We would see a total of 15 bears from the road over the next 3 days!

Liard Hot Springs

A quick dip in the Liard Hot Springs at about 8pm. Unfortunately the campground was full which I was pretty annoyed by at first. We spoke to a police officer on the way out who told us to try MacDonald Campground on the shore of Muncho Lake.....

Arriving at about 10:30pm, this was the view from the shore of our site. Simply one of the most beautiful campsites I have ever stayed at!

Sunday May 20 - Muncho Lake to Dawson Creek.

More shots of Muncho Lake... like I said... it was stunning!

A few mountain goats perched on the rocks as we stopped for a break.

A quick rest stop at Summit Lake. We wanted to do the summit peak trail, but due to our fridge problems, we needed to push on.

We spend the night just north of Dawson Creek (Charlie Lake).

Monday May 21 - Dawson Creek to Barkerville.

We made it! Front marker 1417 to Mile 0 on the Alcan Highway. But we were only half way....

Tuesday May 22nd - A day in Barkerville.

A great “living museum” in the old gold rush town of Barkerville. It has been preserved and has actors in full costume showing off the town and providing you with a rich history.

One last campfire in some very creative portable fire rings. This was our last night and we stayed at Crystal Springs RV Park on Lac Le Hatche.

Wednesday May 23rd - Lac Le Hache to Vancouver through the Fraser Canyon

A view from the Thompson Valley Rest Area on the trans Canada highway through the Fraser Canyon.
